John 5:35

John was a lamp that burned and he gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.

I often rewrite that verse in 1st John.  And read it aloud “Manuel was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a while to enjoy his light.

It inspires me.  It motivates me to grow deeper and stronger in my relationship with the lord.  My hope is to be a light for others that are not capable of standing on their own.  I have this mental picture of the world.  I imagine the world covered in darkness with people walking around the earth giving light.  If god is light, and I have accepted Jesus.  I have his spirit inside of me.  That means I’m giving light in a dark world. It also means, that if I want my light to shine brighter, then I need more Jesus in my life.

1 John 1:5 “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all”

It encourages me because it reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much farther I want to go on this journey with God.  I remember my spiritual battles.  I suffered immensely. It fills me with a righteous anger at the perceived injustice I experienced.  I was just a spiritual baby then. Getting assaulted by a bully that doesn’t fight fair.  Satan has no shame as he seeks to destroy your life.  I wasn’t strong enough to fight the battle I was in.   I couldn’t defend myself against an invisible enemy.  At the time I was so lost, I didn’t even know I was in a fight for my life.

But in Jesus, all hope is not lost.  I had to rely on the power of an almighty God.  Today is different. I’m on the other side now and I want revenge.  Not against people, but against the dark forces of this world that seek to destroy our lives. I have a burning desire to fight for those that don’t have the spiritual awareness of what they are dealing with and the evil that exists in this world.  I want to be a light for others that are not yet capable of fighting for themselves.

I’ll walk closely with you, while you develop.  It takes time to mature in faith.  It takes battles, life experience, and walking with God to grow spiritually.  He will show you that he is faithful and that you can trust him.  While you do that, may the light in me, given to me by the spirit of God, be a lamp for us both.  Overtime as you grow, your faith will catch fire. Then you gain the responsibility to be a light for others.

I pray that the Spirit of God fills you with a desire to grow in faith and be a light for others.
